Traditionally veneers were made from porcelain, they can be quite bulky and appear unnatural. When preparing a tooth for a veneer, porcelain would need a adequate room to fit onto the front of the tooth. However we do offer Emax veneers, made from a ceramic material that is specially treated making the veneer much more durable compared to the porcelain, and due to this they can be cut quite thin so that less natural tooth structure is removed.

We offer our patients Emax veneers as they are our dentists preferred choice and do not require you to remove as much of the natural tooth structure as you would with a porcelain veneer. Emax veneers are natural looking and less bulky and are resistant to picking up stain compared to traditional veneers. Emax is slowly gaining a steady popularity with dentists for the best choice as well as our satisfied patients.

Preparation

The benefit of veneers is that only a small amount of tooth tissue needs to be removed from the front of the tooth during the preparation stage. Using impressions taken of your teeth, a dental technician will be able to make a custom fit, thin porcelain veneer which is tooth coloured, to match the rest of your teeth.

Fit

On the fit appointment, the dentist will trial the veneer to make sure it is a good fit and a good colour match. If so, the dentist will go on to cement the veneer in using a resin bonding material to achieve the best fit and more so secure fit.

If the veneer is not the best fit or colour match it will be sent back with a new impression to remake and retried. Veneers usually require 2 appointments to complete, however in instances like this we may require 1 more appointment.
